Can Vadivel change the superstar ratings in Kollywood

Can Vadivel change the superstar ratings in Kollywood with the release of his Indiralokathil Na Azhagappan (INA) on February 1?

The Kollywood definition of a superstar is- He should be able to take a fantastic opening irrespective of how good or bad the film turns out to be, his fans should be able to sustain the film for atleast a week (now even opening weekend would do). The idea is that the common man on the street should be willing to spend their hard earned money to buy a ticket, just to watch their favourite hero!

At the moment there is only one real superstar, who has all the above qualifications and even a child will tell you that it is Rajnikanth! The others who have been given superstar titles purely on the strength of their openings and fan base are (in alphabetic order)- Ajit, Kamal Hassan, Surya, Vijay and Vikram.

There are others also who had great openings but has not reached the superstar stature, due to various reasons. Now a new guy called Vadivel is threatening to enter the club, though others in this elite club do not want him to be given membership! Vadivel feels that certain vested interests are working behind his back to see that his solo hero films do not run!

According to sources close to Vadivel, there was a conspiracy against his INA to see that it does not release for Pongal. He would like to forget it as a bad dream and go ahead and prove himself at the Tamilnadu box-office. If INA takes a super opening in Tamilnadu, it will ring alarm bells for those opposed to Vadivel's rise. They dismiss Vadivel's last solo hero film Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi as a fluke super hit!

INA is releasing big in nearly 200 screens in Tamilnadu and overseas where the comedy king has become very popular. Vadivel supporters are sure that INA will not only take a super opening, but will also be a hit which will ensure that he continues to do solo hero films, at least one or two a year like other "superstars"!
