South actress Kaveri Jha in Priyadarshan’s ‘Bum Bum Bole’

South actress Kaveri Jha may not have made her presence felt much with her film ‘Hijack’ opposite Shiney Ahuja, but the girl has definitely impressed at least some of the makers. So, Kaveri has been signed for ‘Bum Bum Bole’ directed by Priyadarshan.

The film is an adaptation of the hit Iranian film ‘Children of Heaven’ and has Darsheel Safary in the lead. The film also stars Atul Kulkarni who will play Darsheel’s father and Rituparna Sengupta, who will play his mother. Kaveri has been signed to play the role of Atul’s sister.

News has it that the film runs on two parallels, one that deals with Darsheel and his faith in God, while the second is about the relationship between Kaveri and Atul. Priyadarshan is so excited about this project that he has kept his comedy ‘De Dana Dan’ on hold for the time being till this one gets completed.

Jaya Bachchan attack from Thackeray

Even before ‘Drona’ could hit the screens, the Bachchan family faced a fresh round of attack, this time from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. It all started with a light-hearted jovial remark from Jaya Bachcan on the audio release of Abhishek Bachchan’s ambitious project ‘Drona’. “We are from Uttar Pradesh and we will speak in Hindi—Maharashtrians will forgive us,” said Jaya.

MNS leader Raj Thackeray in February 2008 had accused Jaya’s husband, superstar Amitabh Bachchan, of not doing enough for Maharashtra and favouring his home state of Uttar Pradesh. This seems to have given fresh additions to the issue and now Thackeray has announced a “ban” on films in Maharashtra which features the superstar and his family members.

“All Bachchan family movies and advertisements in Mumbai and Maharashtra are banned from today (Monday),” said Thackeray at a press conference.

“This is an affront to the Marathi Manoos (Marathi-speaking people). All parties should unite and condemn what she said,” said Thackeray.

However, the Bollywood fraternity is with the Bachchans with veteran Shyam Benegal saying it was a “childish” and “silly” remark over a “light-hearted joke”.

“This is an attempt to divide the entire industry and create borders within the nation,” actor and social worker, Nafisa Ali said.

Little did Jaya know that one joke at the launch function would cost so much for her political career as well her son’s upcoming movie ‘Drona’.

Actor Aamir Khan in half-man & half-woman

There is no stopping Aamir Khan. Always setting new goals for himself, always experimenting with new styles, this actor of his own kind will next be seen as the mythological half man-half woman ‘Ardhnarishwar‘ in a Tata Sky ad. This ad, the first for the company by Aamir will go on air from today.

The ad has been conceptualised by the company’s marketing team along with Rediffusion. Bollywood writer-director Neeraj Vohra has directed the ad. This 70 seconds ad will show half of Aamir as a Punjabi girl, and the other half as a boy.

‘We are proud to have Aamir working on the ad and happy with the outcome of the final product. No other actor could have done the same so effectively,’ said Vikram Mehra, chief marketing officer, Tata Sky.

Kabeer Kaushik is missing from ‘Chamku’

One may be wondering why the director Kabeer Kaushik is missing from all the promotional events of Bobby Deol and Priyanka Chopra starrer ‘Chamku’. The reason is that the director is stuck up in London, keeping up with the disrupted shooting schedules of actor turned producer Arshad Warsi’s maiden home production.

Unfortunately, the schedule for Warsi’s film has been hit due to the appalling weather conditions in London. Since Warsi has already lost so many days and a big amount of money too due to bad weather, he obviously does not approve of his director going off to Mumbai for a few days.

On top of that Kaushik has a single entry visa implying that once he flies out of London, he will have to apply for a new visa. Keeping the tight schedule of his film in mind, Warsi is keeping his director on a short lease.

To be known here, that Arshad had been the first choice as the host of ‘Big Boss 2’, but he turned down the offer because it would have entailed flying to and fro between London and Mumbai every week and Warsi cannot afford to do that right now. So now we know that Arshad’s loss has been Shilpa’s gain.

‘Kaminey’ not a good shooting experience for Shahid

Shahid Kapoor did not have a very pleasant time while shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Kaminey’ at Pune. First, it was his female fan following which created mobbing and gate-crashing for autographs making it difficult for Shahid to get to the sets from Taj where he was staying.

The second mishap took place on Thursday when Shahid fell off a bike with his co-star Priyanka Chopra. The accident took place while the duo were shooting for a scene that required Priyanka to ride a bike with Shahid on the back seat.

The two were riding the bike on a slope that was slightly muddy when the two-wheeler skidded and the two fell off. And to make matter worse, the bike fell on top of them. Now both the stars sport quite a few bruises on their body.

“By god’s grace, I am fine and so is Shahid, except for a few cuts and bruises. I think the only thing that is seriously damaged is my ego, otherwise I am alive and kicking, ” Priyanka was quoted as saying in a press statement.

Abhishek Bachchan Starrer ‘Drona’ to be unveiled today

The first teaser of Abhishek Bachchan starrer ‘Drona’ has already created a lot of stirs. Now, Eros International is all set to unveil yet another magnificent promo of the film this Independence Day which will be shown across theatres along with ‘God Tussi Great Ho’. This teaser will unveil the look of Kay Kay Menon who plays the antagonist Riz Raizada and Priyanka Chopra who plays Sonia.

The music launch of Vikram Bhatt’s ‘1920’

The music launch of Vikram Bhatt’s ‘1920’ was held in a grand way with almost everyone present at the occasion including Anjorie Alagh, Adah Sharma, Kailash Kher, Vikram Bhatt, Sameer, Pandit Jasraj, Rakhi Sawant, and Rajneesh Duggal. However, the absence of music composer for the film, Adnan Sami, was conspicuously felt.

Actress Bipasha Basu steals Ranbir Kapoor from Deepika Padukone

It all happened on the sets of a television reality show where Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone appeared for the promotion of their upcoming ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’.

Incidentally, Deepika was to make an entry with Ranbir, but Bips did not like the idea at all and insisted that she should make an entry with the Kapoor kid. So, the promoters decided to focus on Bipasha on the TV show and arranged an entry of Ranbir and Bipasha together. Deepika, sadly, was sidelined.

Jealous as all women are, Deepika did not take it down in good spirit and kept sulking through the entire show, so much so, that she even snapped at a contestant leaving him hurt.

Actress Kareena Kapoor is a great chef too

Kitchen has always been a special place for girls and cine stars are no exception, for it is learnt that fitness freak Kareena Kapoor along with long-time friend Amrita Arora, have taken up the responsibility of feeding low-cal healthy food to their co-stars on the sets of ‘Golmaal Returns’.

Co-stars Tusshar Kapoor admits that Kareena was cooking for her friends. “Very few are aware that Kareena is a great cook. She hit the kitchen when we were in Goa and made awesome South Indian food for us. Her specialty is Paneer Tikka. She put me, Ajay Devgan, Amrita Arora and Arshad Warsi on this diet.”

Good friend Amrita Arora also swears by Kareena’s culinary skills. “I was pleasantly surprised when she made South Indian food for us in Goa. She has been cooking on and off even now.”

So, now that we know about Kareena’s cooking skills, the secret is revealed how Kareena made her way to Saif’s heart!

The Surprise Party For Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra does not believe in the size or price of gift and Harman knew it well. So, when Priyanka was in a mood to spend her 26th birthday as just any other day sleeping and relaxing for a change, Harman had some surprise in store for her.

Mallika Sherawat Moral police on a chase for ‘Talli’

She is already on a high…. What if she gets higher on a booze and then goes ‘Main talli main talli ho gayi’, meaning I am drunk? It fetches a good job for the moral police once again who have already done it for Mallika creating a hue and cry for her skimpy dress at conservative Chennai for the music launch of Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Dasavatharam’.

So, this time the promos of Pritish Nandy Communications’ ‘Ugly Aur Pagli’ with Mallika in the ‘Talli’ song give sleepless nights to the moral police. Well, they are giving sleepless nights to other men too.

Pritish Nandy acts cool, shrugs his shoulder and says, “Let them say what they like. Firstly Talli is a zany fun song. Yes, Mallika Sherawat is saying she’s high in the song. But she could be high on life. Or she could be high on Coke…I mean the soft drink, ” he chuckles.

He continues saying, “Very honestly we need to stop wagging our fingers at other people. Why can’t a woman lose control in a pub and freak out? Is that the prerogative of men only?

I neither drink nor smoke. But I see nothing wrong with people who do. As long as you don’t drive when you drink what’s wrong with having a few drinks and creating some masti?”

Pritish Nandy says he is in principle opposed to any kind of moral censorship. “Don’t smoke don’t drink. Don’t do ‘it’ behind the bushes. Bah! Let people do what they like even if they seem to create a nuisance, so what? We all have the right to do what we like. And the Talli song is about having fun.”

Again, Mallika is not the one to give in to the tantrums of moral police. She was in a super mood as she kick started the promotional campaign of her forthcoming movie ‘Ugly aur Pagli’ with visits across Mumbai discos. She jived with Hard kaur on the movie songs at the ‘Talli Night’ promotional event of ‘Ugly and Pagli’.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Come Again

Their much awaited and much hyped film ‘Tashan’ crashed at the box office despite Kareena flaunting her zero size figure in the film. But this has in no way disheartened Saifeena (Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor) from venturing into projects together.

They are already working in Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Agent Vinod’ and untitled film for Rensil D’Silva. The latest addition to this list is the film they have signed for the production house Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd. Incidentally, this film is a part of the three-film deal, which Kareena had signed with Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd.

The spokesperson for Ashtavinayak confirmed the news saying, “Yes, Saif and Kareena have been signed for a film to be made under the Ashtavinayak banner. It is an action film but the director is yet to be finalized. The film will go on floors sometime next year (2009).”
